Dollar Shave Club Review
I am a self-identified marketing junkie. I collect junk mail. I watch infomercials for fun. I “play prospect” with companies all the time to see how they try and sell me. I examine their processes, their follow-up, and their aggressiveness. Any time I run across great advertising or marketing (even from competitors) I silently applaud them for getting it right.
Some of the best marketing and advertising that I have seen recently has come from DollarShaveClub.com. Their online videos and TV commercials are hilarious, brilliant, and remarkable.

After seeing their advertising (everywhere!) I decided to give them a try and see for myself what kind of product it really was. My birthday is coming up so I asked my wife to go ahead and order them for me.
She chose the $9 a month plan for me which gives me four blades per month. Each week I use one blade and then toss it. A new pack of four is automatically shipped to me each month.
What I found was that the blades are just as good as any other name brand competitor. No better necessarily and no worse. Here’s the kicker though: as soon as my first box arrived I took a picture and posted it to my social media accounts telling my friends and family about it. I was as giddy as a school girl over a product that was literally no better than any other option available.
Why? Why was I excited about a product I had never even used and turned out to only be as good as the rest? The answer is found in the way I was sold by the company through their advertising.
I can’t overstate the power of this! They are bringing on satisfied customers before the customer has even tried their product purely through great marketing! I would urge you to look closely at your own marketing and advertising and see how you can make it more fun, more unique, and more remarkable than your competitors’.
